Loyal and confidential service from Devchandra
Prannath Leelaamrit - Chapter 8
Devchandra served so secretly that no one knew about it.
He spent his time with Haridas until midnight, engaging in discussions and devotional singing. Then, he would go home for three hours before returning at 3 a.m. to circumambulate Haridas's temple. Thus, he began practicing extremely rigorous austerities.
One day, Haridas woke up at 3 a.m. to use the bathroom. He saw someone moving around outside his window, so he called out, "Who are you?"
Devchandra replied, "It is I."
Haridas recognized Devchandra's voice and opened the door, letting him in. He asked, "Why have you come at this hour?"
Devchandra replied, "I thought the sun was about to rise, so I came."
This way, Devchandra kept his services private to help him with his spiritual well-being.
One day, Haridas saw Devchandra circumambulating his house again before sunrise.
He called out to Devchandra, asking him to come upstairs. "I thought you came here by mistake one night," he said, "but now you come every day. I cannot bear the burden of your devotion. Tell me what you want, and I will give it to you."
When Devchandra remained silent, Haridas said, "I will give you the idol of Bal Mukund. Take it home with you and find joy in serving him there."
Devchandra respectfully accepted his command, saying, "As you wish."
